Why does this need a server, when Images to GIF and Images to WebP don't?

No browser exposes an encoder for animated AVIF yet — it's a gap in current browser APIs, not a choice we made. We send your assembled frames to our server to encode them with a real AVIF encoder, then delete them automatically once you've downloaded the result.

Is this still private?

Only your images' pixels are uploaded, only after you explicitly click to start server processing, and only for as long as it takes to encode — nothing is kept afterward. If you'd rather everything stay on your device, Images to GIF and Images to WebP both encode fully locally.

How many images can I combine?

The same batch limit as Images to GIF and Images to WebP applies here.
